January Update

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! I certainly did and now I’m so excited to be back in class!

Our O’Mara Sprung Floor is here and installed!  It’s just as great as we expected and was certainly worth the wait. While this isn’t a huge concern for younger dancers, this floor will help prevent injuries and keep our students dancing for longer, for both more hours during the day and years in their dancing career. The sprung floor is designed to help absorb impact in a way plain hardwood or just concrete cannot. This means the floor takes the shock instead of your dancer’s joints, muscles, and tendons. As someone who still occasionally suffers from shin splints from dancing on a subpar floor in college, I find this incredibly important. I can tell you right now that after only dancing on the floor for two nights, I can already tell a difference!

Now that we have our fabulous floor, I’m going to begin aggressively spreading the word about the studio.  As of today, we have 19 students enrolled.  That is a GREAT start, but I think we can do better. I’m in the process of trying to get approval from Knox County to send flyers out through the schools in our area and if you have ideas for places you think it would be beneficial to leave brochures or hang a poster with tear offs with our contact info, please let me know!  I’m always open to your suggestions!

Here’s the part of every update where I really push our Zumba® classes on Mondays at 7:30, Wednesdays at 7, and Saturdays at 10. Zumba® is a great way to stay true to your New Year’s Resolution to get fit, have fun, and do something for yourself!  It’s an hour long class with no kids, no dinner to make, no phone calls, no distractions, and a whole lot of fun.  No dance experience is required and I promise that anyone reading this is perfectly capable of doing it!  Even those of you with self proclaimed “two left feet” can do Zumba.  My only rule is that you have fun and get sweaty. As long as you’re moving, I’m happy!  Your first class is completely free, so you have nothing to lose!  After that individual classes are only $6. For more information on Zumba®, check out www.zumba.com and see what all the fuss is about.  I hope to see you in class soon!

More information about things like recital, optional competitions, and upcoming summer activities (yes, summer!!) will be heading your way soon!

Edited to add: Oh my…  I forgot to do something really important.  Huge gigantic thanks to my husband Jonathan who thoroughly busted his tail helping me get our sprung flooring installed.  Between pulling up carpet, jumping through hoops to test for moisture in the concrete to make sure our warranty on the floor stays valid, and spending 9 hours laying 65 panels of flooring he has worked harder than anyone else to make sure we have a fabulous and safe floor to train on.  Thank you so so so much!!

Another huge thanks to my mom, Eleadra, who went to our house at almost 9:00pm to let our dog out and feed her since we had been at the studio all day.  Chloe really appreciated it.  🙂
